JAN is an expressionist artist based in Pretoria, South Africa. His work is driven by emotion, instinct and the quiet moments of inspiration found in nature and in people. Each painting begins with a spark, an image, a feeling or a memory that invites him to explore it on canvas.
Working primarily with oil, JAN builds every piece slowly through layers of colour and texture. Music often fills the studio while he paints, allowing rhythm and mood to guide the movement of the brush. Rather than following strict rules of colour or form, he allows the painting to evolve freely, trusting the process and the feeling of the moment.
